The reactor building dome installation has started at Unit 2 of Novovoronezh NPP Phase II

03.09.2014 16:06 The reactor building dome installation has started at Unit 2 of Novovoronezh NPP Phase II (the Architect General and Principal Contractor is Atomenergoproekt, Moscow).
 
The dome of the reactor building containment consists of the lower and upper sections. It is installed by a DEMAG crane (one of the most potent in Russia and has a lifting capacity of 1,250 tons) in two stages. On September 3, the lower section of the dome (from elevation +44.1 meters up to elevation +51.7 meters) was put on its design place. The next stage will be the installation of the upper section of the dome (from elevation +51.7 meters up to elevation +61.7 meters). The dome structures have a total weight of over 400 tons; its bottom lower diameter is 44 meters. The dome is being assembled by specialists from Energospetsmontazh (part of Atomenergoproekt’s system) and Trust ROSSEM.
 

The dome installation was preceded by on-site assembling of its constituents (rebar units) that allowed achieving high quality of installation works. With this, not only dome metal structures were assembled on the ground but also some of the process systems, in particular, safety system components.
 
After installation of the inner containment dome the main stage of installation of heavy large-size equipment of the reactor installation (reactor pressure vessel, steam generators, pressurizer) will start.
 
The dome is part of the double-wall containment which prevents releases into the environment and serves as protection against external natural and man-induced impacts, including earthquakes, tornadoes and aircraft crash.
